A Specter Indeed

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Why does this Arlen Specter switching parties thing sound familiar? Because he’s done it before, switching from Democrat to Republican in 1966. In short, his firmest allegiance is to the “I want to get re-elected” party.

Also, did you know that Arlen Specter is the guy who came up with the “single bullet theory” (a.k.a. the “bastard bullet”) for the Warren Commission?

We’re congress darn it!

Third Parties – does anybody care?

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I think that this is a pretty good summation of most of the “third party” (not Democrat or Republican) parties in the United States from politics1.com. Everything from the reasonable to the very nutty.
Thoughts:

  • I can imagine the U.S. Marijuana Party’s convention must be interesting.
  • The Libertarian Party likes to say that they are the 3rd biggest party, but I’m not sure they can back it up.
  • Why does anybody – anybody – still vote for Pat Buchanan? And to base a party around him?
  • I notice farther out from “normal” on the political spectrum you go, into the far left and right wing nutville, the more political parties there are.
  • If all those socialist parties really want to make a difference, instead of just having meetings and printing newsletters, why don’t they combine? Of course, that’s my opinion with many non-profit groups
  • It must be getting really hard to think of names for new political parties
  • I think it hilarious that the Communist Party USA has an online store
